Just about anything can spark an idea, but I am particularly drawn to nature and color, combining organic and/or realistic with abstract.
I find that the process of creating intuitively leads to new work. I don't sit and try to think of things, I just paint and new ideas blossom from it.
What is something people might not know about you as an artist?
I started out doing portraits. For years I found the human face fascinating. Each is different and expressive in it's own way. Eventually, I needed a change and started playing with abstraction. I did many melted and twisted faces before focusing just on design alone, and finally adding flowers to the designs.
What has been the most rewarding part of your creative journey so far?
Teaching. When I see a former student's work in an exhibit I get so excited. Knowing that I helped them get where they are and where they're going is the best.
I've always known about DayGlo products but never used them until I participated in a DayGlo show about 10 years ago. My love for color would not let me pass it up. It's the same today. I can't resist just the idea of creating something with this paint. I hope I am able to put it to good use and create something special for this year's show.
