Simple things I see in nature, things that are bigger and more important than me - things that remind me the world still has so much beauty. The human need for joy and whimsy keeps me motivated to create, both for myself and my audience.
All of the above! I will get the itch to make something pretty, weird, silly, you name it - all of a sudden it'll pop into my head and hang around until I pick up a pen or a brush.
What is something people might not know about you as an artist?
Honestly, I'm a pretty open book. I wear my heart on my sleeve so most people who know of my work know what to expect. But for any newcomers who stumble across this post, or for those who might know me through my design work at local faves like Noble Beast or Nubeigel in the Heights - I also paint murals (home and commercial), maintain an online shop of prints, stickers, and other silly merch, and have a studio space - Vessel City in Gordon Square, where I paint and draw, and more recently, sculpt with wood and found objects. I also play guitar, lately I'm learning a lot of Sheryl Crow and Big Thief songs.
Learning and growing through creativity is the best part. Meeting new people, sharing ideas and finding new inspiration - realizing I am not alone in my challenges. The lessons I've learned as an artist, the skills I maintain, help me in every other aspect of my life. Creative people and communities are so important for our collective conscious and mental health. To be a part of that, to know the talented and loving creative minds, friends and peers in Cleveland and beyond, it's priceless.
Just about 10 years ago, I joined in my first DayGlo show at Waterloo Arts, and I have been a fan ever since! Recently I've been using them more, creating custom pieces for customers and building some newer bodies of work I hope to share soon!
